Where the quality of life goes down for the environment, the quality of life goes down for human - George Holland
Recycle Swimsuit Singapore is an initiative and effort to offer a second life to old swimsuits. We began by supporting different societies and outreach groups to gather old clothes to redistribute to underprivileged families because the idea is that they should not be worried about clothing as they were already having trouble getting enough food on the table. Every time we have to sort out these old clothes by types however we often find a quite a few pieces of swimsuits as part of these collections and, for reasons of hygiene, we have sadly not been able to redistribute them and instead have to throw them away.
That is when we realized that while all these swimsuits are worn or might no longer fit well, but we still believe they have some value left in them. This is also why we decided to set this initiative as a project to collect all the old swimsuits and help recycle them in our own little ways. Each recycled swimsuit means one less swimsuit ended up in the landfill. In Singapore, experts predicts that at the rate we are going - landfill can only last us till 2035* and also swimsuit are made out of synthetic fiber, which is also a kind of plastic hence we wanted to do our part in slowing down the damage done to the environment. Every effort counts.
